The Leicester Fire and Rescue service had to undertake a five-hour rescue mission to save a puppy that had become trapped in a badger sett. Winston, who was out on a walk with his owner Helen Peake, fell into a hole hidden by a holly bush in Diamond Jubilee Wood. Winston was stuck in the mud for 60 hours before Heather finally reached out to the authorities for help. Badger setts are heavily protected by law, which made Winston’s rescue difficult. However, on Tuesday, fire crews and the RSPCA worked together and used specialist equipment to locate Winston by listening to his muffled barks and digging him out of the sett. After the ordeal, Winston received a lot of attention and affection and was presumably given a good bath too.

Winston expressed immense gratitude towards his rescuers, who used specialized equipment to find and dig him out of a badger sett. The rescuers proceeded carefully to avoid causing the sett to collapse on Winston. He was handed over to RSPCA officers for a check-up and was reunited with his happy owner. The rescue teams didn’t find any other animals, indicating that the badger sett wasn’t active. Another spaniel named Reggie also had an adventure this year when he accidentally fell down a 22-foot crevice on a mountain in Wales. However, rescue teams worked tirelessly to rescue him, and his owner described him as a brave little warrior after the ordeal.
